I Thought I Had Self-Control
I settled in at my desk, the memory-foam chair already warm from an all-nighter and a pre-dawn scroll of every gay porn update in the last five years. Even the air in my dorm room, equal parts kettle-corn, chlorine, and a suspiciously persistent musk of cum, seemed to know what I was about to attempt. I flicked my laptop open, skipped the half-written literary analysis, and opened a brand-new Google Doc. I even titled it before I wrote a single word: “7-Day Edging Trial.”
Here’s the thing about me: if you give me an idea, I’m going to try it. It’s a character flaw that has served me better in the pool than in the rest of my life, where it more often leads to minor humiliations and an alarming number of post-workout protein smoothies exploding in my backpack.
The idea in question, edging for a week, then reporting on the results, wasn’t even mine. A subscriber had messaged me on Substack with the simple but evocative query: “I heard if you edge for a week then nut, it’s insane? Is that true? Please advise.”
Which led to my experiment.
The goal was simple: edge every day, never allow myself to finish, and on the seventh day, blow my load and record every detail.
I’d measure three variables, because the scientific method deserves at least a minimal nod:
Subjective intensity of orgasm
Visible semen volume (qualitative, not quantitative)
Overall satisfaction (psychological and physiological)
But first, I had to define my terms.
Edge: to jerk off to the point just before orgasm, then stop, let things settle, and repeat.
Abstinence: don’t cum.
What I was doing was a synthesis, a sort of slow-cook method for horniness, with the added twist of recording every rising wave, every time I squirmed in my seat at lecture or left the gym with a boner that could cut glass. (Yes, you can get a boner from diving practice. I will elaborate on that in another article.)
I started a ‘private journal’ aka a Google doc, labeling my first entry “Day Zero: Baseline.” I made a list of everything I expected: increased precum, constant distraction, dreams that belonged in an HBO series. I expected the orgasm, on Day Seven, to be “mind-blowing,” but I wrote that down as a hypothesis, not a guarantee. The last thing I needed was to hype myself into a placebo effect, then disappoint the several thousand subscribers who apparently relied on me for honest, occasionally humiliating advice.
Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe it was a great idea. Either way, it was 100% on-brand.
I signed off my first entry: “See you on the other side.”
Then, because I couldn’t help myself, I re-read the message from my Substack friend, picturing his face as he read my article in a couple weeks and wondered if anyone could possibly take his question so literally.
One last note before I closed the document: “This is for science, but also for fun. If anything gets weird, I reserve the right to stop, regroup, and write about that instead. —C”
I shut the laptop, stretched my arms overhead, and stared up at the ceiling tile above my desk, which over the semester had become my unofficial inspiration board. Seven days, I thought. What could possibly go wrong?
The air in my room, predictably, did not answer. But it was buzzing now, just a little, as if the room itself was in on the experiment.
A Little Too Sure of Myself
Day One: Not to be dramatic, but if you’ve never woken up at 4:45 a.m. with a boner and the smell of chlorine still ghosting your sheets, you haven’t lived the full collegiate experience. My phone alarm buzzed like an angry bee, and I smacked at it with the side of my fist, momentarily thinking I could snooze my way out of the experiment I committed to. I dragged myself up, tossed on my favorite baggy sweatshirt (the one with the suspicious bleach stains and one sleeve chewed by the family dog), and blinked at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. Still me: curly hair mashed flat on one side, dark eyes puffed from lack of sleep, a subtle scruff of stubble because I was too lazy to shave last night.
First official observation: I was hornier than usual, or at least I thought I was. Hard to tell if it was because of the experiment or just because my cock heard “no cumming for a week” and immediately staged a protest.
Practice was the usual, an hour and forty-five minutes of synchronized suffering, heavy on the interval sets and low on the oxygen. I’d love to say I spent the whole session pondering the existential meaning of delayed gratification, but mostly I just tried not to inhale water. By the end of the session, my abs were burning, my legs were jelly, and I was pretty sure my balls had increased in mass by a full five percentage points.
After practice, I hit the campus café, protein bar in hand, and fired up my laptop for a quick pre-class check-in. But all I could think about was how the friction of my jeans felt almost obscene, even with the jockstrap doing its best to keep everything contained.
Journal Entry: Day One. Baseline horniness: 6/10 at wake-up, 8/10 post-practice. Not sure if that’s a real spike or just the novelty of being ‘forbidden.’ First urge to edge: 2:19 p.m., during Stats lecture, triggered by a hot guy in the front row stretching and accidentally flashing lower abs with treasure trail. Resisted. Will attempt edging session tonight after homework.
The rest of the day blurred: classes, quick dinner, some half-assed notes in a group project, then back to my place. I gave myself exactly thirty minutes to pretend I cared about “Foucault’s Critique of the Power Structure” and then put that reading aside.
I grabbed my laptop and jumped onto my bed. It was time for the first real session.
